What Are Projection Mapping Jobs?
Projection mapping allows you to project a video, animation, or display on a three-dimensional surface or object to create amazing displays. Most jobs tend to fall under an AV systems role, such as an engineer or designer. Your duties then include the vast scope of potential video projection projects, from design to installation to maintenance. Your responsibilities include software development, creating drawings for installations, traveling to locations for installation and orientation of the display, managing your hardware inventory, and liaising with the creative team, artist, and customer. Travel is a significant part of projection mapping jobs.
How to Get a Projection Mapping Job
To get a projection mapping job, you should apply to a creative or audio/visual agency or an event company, or but you can also work as a freelancer. Although most employers are not concerned with formal qualifications, employers want to see that you have a significant understanding of not only projections but also the associated electrical and HVAC requirements, experience with networking and security, and experience working with displays put together by an artist. You can communicate much of this in your resume and a portfolio or video reel of your work. Other essential skills include the ability to work with a team, creative problem-solving skills, attention to detail, the ability to work independently, a strong grasp of technology, and a willingness to travel.
