Powder Coating Jobs - What Are They and How to Get One

Powder coating jobs are positions in which you help paint and finish various products—often, but not exclusively, metal—using a dry powder coat that can be treated to become a solid surface. In this role, you may help prepare components, spray on the powder, and ensure that the final product meets all manufacturing standards. Most powder coating jobs take place in regulated environments that help minimize the chance of irregularities while using the specialized tools required to make powder coating work. Powder coating jobs also help move products into and out of an oven to cure the surface and ensure a smooth, even finish.

The primary qualifications for getting a powder coating job are physical stamina and the ability to use various chemicals and cleaning products safely. This job does not require any special education, though many powder coaters attend trade schools or find other ways to gain experience before applying for a powder coating job. Most powder coaters work in manufacturing plants, so this job is geographically limited to areas that have the correct types of manufacturing plants—as such, you may need to move in order to find a powder coating job. Fulfilling the responsibilities and duties of a powder coater requires good eyesight, physical fitness, and the ability to memorize and follow complex safety guidelines.
