What Does a Pallet Rack Installer Do?

Pallet racks are structures typically used in warehouses and large stores to store and display supplies and products. Pallet rack installers help build these structures for businesses in the specifications that are best suited to the size of the storage area and the type of product. As a pallet rack installer, your job duties are to help your employer or client determine the size and scope of the pallet racks they need and order the appropriate amount of material required to build the shelves. Once you receive the materials, you set up the framework and install all the shelving units to create the pallet racks.

How to Become a Pallet Rack Installer

To become a pallet rack installer, you need to have a high school diploma or GED certificate. Many employers provide on-the-job training, but warehouse experience or knowledge of storage units is helpful. Candidates must be proficient with hand tools, such as impact guns, hammer drills, rachets, and wrenches, and know how to read blueprints and floor plans to be able to follow instructions. Most positions require some travel, so you need to have a valid driver's license and a clean driving record. Pallet rack installers who are independent contractors must have their own tools and a vehicle large enough to transport necessary materials.
