In this career, you typically work as part of a large development team and support other departments in your organization by assessing their data storage and organizational needs and developing projects that meet those needs. As an Oracle database developer, you also help your organization to oversee data migration to Oracle servers and ensure that workers’ access to the information remains unchanged.

The skills you need to become an Oracle database developer include interpersonal skills, technical skills, such as programming and coding ability, and administrative skills. You should also have strong communication skills because you work with a large number of people and need to assess the needs of different workers or departments. Although developers do not do as much programming as coders, you do need a good knowledge of languages such as SQL and the technical specifications of Oracle servers and other hardware. Educational qualifications typically include a bachelor’s degree in computer science or IT. Oracle-administered certification is also useful.
