What Are the Duties and Responsibilities of a Mail Inserter?
As a mail inserter, your responsibilities are to set up, operate, and troubleshoot mail sorting machines and other sorting equipment. You must calibrate the devices to handle different types of mail, such as bank statements, checks, and invoices. During the operation, you make routine inspections of the equipment to ensure that there are no quality control issues or mechanical problems with the setup. In addition to working on the machines, you perform clerical duties and document your daily work.
How to Become a Mail Inserter
To become a mail inserter, you typically need a high school diploma or GED certificate and at least a year of experience training and learning practical skills for the job under a more senior operator. You may qualify for more job opportunities if you have a strong mechanical aptitude and some experience with machine operation, such as in a production facility. Mechanical or shop classes are also helpful, along with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
