What Is a Linux DevOps Engineer and How to Become One

A Linux DevOps engineer assists with the full lifecycle of software development for a company with the DevOps system. In this role, your primary responsibilities are to develop, configure, implement, test, and improve the software using Linux. Your duties include researching the best techniques and technology, seeing deployments of programs through, adjusting scripting based on troubleshooting results, maintaining operations, scanning for security threats, recommending technology policies, providing support, and building application architecture. Your goal is to create a smooth system for automation by collaborating with other departments to ensure an efficient and effective program.

You typically need a bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field to become a Linux DevOps engineer. You must also have several years of experience, preferably in a web application environment or DevOps role working with various hardware models. Familiarity with DevOps, Linux, and general software development practices is essential. You must also have experience in network management, monitoring tools, network stack, protocols, installation of systems, and system administration. Other qualifications include coding knowledge in Java and Python, analytical thinking skills, the ability to communicate complex issues, and finely tuned troubleshooting skills.
