What Does a Golf Course Ranger Do?

A golf course ranger oversees the operation of a golf course. In this career, you patrol the course and driving range, ensuring golfers follow the course’s rules and regulations. You monitor golfers during play, and maintain golf course rules and play etiquette. Your responsibilities include serving as a liaison between players, employees, and management along with communicating feedback between golfers and other staff. Other duties include handling emergency situations and providing excellent customer service to players. You make sure supplies, including flags, water bottles, and cups, are always available.

How Do You Become a Golf Course Ranger?

To become a golf course ranger, you need an interest in golf and knowledge of its rules and regulations. Most employers require their golf course rangers to have a high school diploma or equivalent. Other qualifications include the physical ability to lift heavy loads and stand or walk for long periods of time. You need excellent customer service skills and must feel comfortable working with country club members. You need a valid driver’s license, as you spend much of your time driving a golf cart around the course.

What Is the Difference Between a Golf Course Ranger and a Golf Course Superintendent?

There are several differences between a golf course ranger and a golf course superintendent. A golf course ranger patrols the course and monitors players. A golf course superintendent, on the other hand, supervises all the workers and operations of the golf course. The golf course superintendent is responsible for landscaping and maintenance of the golf course grounds. Golf courses have many specific standards, and the superintendent ensures the course meets these standards. While a golf course ranger primarily works with people, the superintendent focuses on the upkeep of the grounds.
