The qualifications that you need to start work as a forging engineer include a bachelor’s degree and experience working as an engineer in the manufacturing industry. While most employers prefer a degree in mechanical engineering, you can choose to study a subject like materials science or a related field. Some employers expect either demonstratable job skills or a master’s degree. With four years of post-bachelor-degree experience, you can try to earn a professional engineer (PE) license. Computer-aided design skills are useful as well.
