As a design project manager, your job duties include establishing the project schedule, monitoring the budget, and motivating a team of creative professionals. The qualifications to pursue a career as a design project manager include a bachelor’s degree in art, graphic design, or business management and several years of industry experience.

To begin your career as a design project manager, you typically need a mix of technical training and job experience rather than formal education qualifications. You can prove your skills with a strong portfolio of past work that showcases some of your best projects and clients with whom you have worked. You also need excellent leadership and project management skills, so having previous job experience in these areas can help. Having certifications in areas relevant to the job, such as web development, web design, or graphic design, can help you stand out from other candidates. Design project managers must be multitaskers, organizers, communicators, and team players.

Job Summary

We are seeking a Design Project Manager to oversee our interior design projects. In this position, you will manage a team of designers as they draft the design, following the project through to completion. You will set a budget, approve purchase orders for furniture or supplies, and give final approval to all designs and space planning. Your designers will do most of the drafting, however, you should still be skilled with computer-aided design (CAD) software, such as AutoCAD or Revit. While a degree in interior design is beneficial, we prefer candidates with extensive experience in interior design.

Requirements and Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED certificate
• Several years of interior design experience (required)
