Acquire an entry-level position with a technology firm or an IT department of a company to learn how to utilize and maintain databases. Once you have some industry experience, seek database programmer jobs. Certification is not required, but obtaining industry-specific certifications available from software companies such as Microsoft and Oracle may make you more competitive in the job market.
