A data conversion analyst is a job in the computer science industry with a focus on database management systems. Your responsibilities in this career revolve around working with clients to convert data between different formats. Sometimes this conversion is to make the data compatible with a different system. Other times, it may be to make the information more accessible and user-friendly. Regardless, your duties as a data conversion analyst are to determine the specifications needed to transfer data from one format to another, test the conversion process to ensure that data is corruption-free, and provide resolutions to any errors or issues that may occur. You may also create a process for converting data and then train another employee to complete the process en masse.

The qualifications needed to become a data conversion analyst typically include a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, information technology, or a similar area of study that focuses on software programming languages. An aptitude with programming languages, particularly common database languages, is one of the most important skills for a data conversion analyst. Additionally, you need to have several years of experience working in data systems or data conversion before moving into this career. You also need a strong understanding of database systems, such as SQL-based systems, and database interfaces like Microsoft Access or Oracle programs.
