CCNA Routing Switching Jobs - What Are They and How to Get One

Some Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) routing and switching jobs include network administrator and network technician. As a CCNA routing and switching professional, you install and configure switches and routers to ensure optimal network performance. As a network administer, your responsibilities are to train and add new users, upgrade and maintain an organization’s computer network, and troubleshoot network operations. Your duties as a CCNA network technician include evaluating network performance, installing and designing well-functioning networks, configuring and testing software, doing regular backups of information and data, and scheduling maintenance and upgrades. There may be similar jobs that require this certificate but do not use the term “routing and switching.”

The minimum qualifications for a CCNA routing and switching job include the Cisco Certified Network Associate accreditation. You can earn this certification by passing an exam from Cisco. To become a network administrator, you need a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a similar discipline. Experience with networking, switching, and routing is beneficial. Employers may also prefer you to be familiar with internet VPNs, troubleshooting, firewalls, and remote implementation. The minimum qualifications for a network technician role include a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, computer science, or a relevant field. Knowledge of TCP/IP network technologies and protocols and LAN/WAN networks is beneficial. Strong communication skills are helpful in both of these positions.
