Solterra Academy provides comprehensive special education for students ages 5 to 21 who require intensive intervention due to severe emotional, behavioral, cognitive, developmental and/or learning challenges. We are looking for passionate individuals to fill our open Instructional Tutor positions. SUMMARY

Instructional Tutors assist the teacher and other support staff in implementing academic, vocational, and behavioral programming in the classroom and the surrounding school environment. They provide support for activities and transitions under the supervision of the teacher and administration and implement behavioral interventions as needed. They record data on student performance as directed. Instructional Tutors assist in the creation of a safe and structured environment for all students through the effective implementation of Therapeutic Crisis Invention (TCI) and Positive Behavioral Interventions (PBIS) practices. Instructional Tutors may rotate among various classrooms as needed and may function as a job coach or substitute teacher as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Individualized Education Program (IEP) Responsibilities

o Work with students individually or to implement the approved IEP goals and objectives under the guidance of the teacher.

o Participate in Team Meetings when possible.

o May be required to participate in Planning and Placement Meetings (PPT) meeting for an assigned student.

Academic Instruction and Support

o Provide academic and behavioral support to students during classroom instruction under the direction of the teacher.

o Assist in preparation of instructional materials as directed by teacher.

o Assist in monitoring of independent seat work.

o May function as a job coach as assigned for high school students, which may include off-site, community placements.

o May be required to drive personal vehicle to job sites (with gas mileage reimbursement).

o May provide substitute teacher services as required and assigned by an administrator.

Behavior Management

o Implement PBIS practices with fidelity.

o Implement TCI strategies to support students emotionally and behaviorally.

o Implements students' Behavioral Invention Plan (BIP) throughout the school day.

o Demonstrate the ability to set limits and maintain personal boundaries.

o Demonstrate cultural sensitivity in all interactions with students/families.

o Effectively use patience and therapeutic tone in day-to-day interactions with students.

Data Tracking

o Record data on student performance as specified by the teacher and other members of the primary team.

o Complete all necessary BIRs and Restraint/Seclusion Documentation in a timely fashion.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Bachelor's degree in Education, appropriate content area, or related human services field.

Previous experience working with children with severe behaviors.

LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED

CPR certification required within 90 days of hire (training provided by Solterra Academy).

Certification in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention required with the first training course provided after hire date (training provided by Solterra Academy).

Public Service Driver's License (PSL) may be required.

Shifts/Hours: This is a 33.25 hour position; Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, 7:30-2:45; Wednesday, 7:30-2:15
