Job description

PURPOSE OF POSITION
In accordance with the Christian principles of the YMCA, the incumbent will provide leadership to instructional areas of Aquatic programs according to the YMCA Aquatic Program Model. He/she will exemplify the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility and faith.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
  1. Ensure all classes are taught with the safety of the participant foremost.
  2. Follow pool rules at all times, modeling for the participants.
  3. Instruct swim classes in accordance with Gateway Region YMCA guidelines so that participants progress through skills.
  4. Develop positive relationships with participants and provide motivational support and guidance.
  5. Communicate with parents or custodial adult on the progress of the child.
  6. Perform all duties with caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and faith.
  7. Other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Begin and end classes on time.
  2. Complete lesson plans on a weekly or session basis.
  3. Maintain records of skills, attendance and student progress on skill sheets.
  4. Complete progress cards for each level and student taught in a timely manner.
  5. Attend all swim instructor in-services.
  6. Is absent no more than two times in session for each class instructed.
  7. Attain YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor within 30 to 60 days.
  8. Maintain all required certifications current.
