General Description:

The Senior Maintenance Mechanic is an hourly position reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor. The Senior Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for all aspects of facility maintenance. This position requires an individual with in-depth knowledge of general maintenance and requires performing duties with little to no supervision. Dependability and attention to detail are required characteristics. The maintenance work environment involves the handling of hazardous chemicals. The ability to use a personal respirator is required. The physical demands of this position may involve standing for extended periods as well as frequent lifting of items weighing up to 50 lbs. (unassisted).

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Achieve daily and job specific goals
  • Provide maintenance support to other departments
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventive maintenance to production and facilities equipment
  • Install new, or relocate existing, equipment with all required utilities, including water, compressed air, electrical (three phase), steam, hydraulic, and vacuum.
  • Practice safe and efficient work habits
  • Direct maintenance mechanics and maintenance operators as required
  • Utilize REDAR’s CMMS platform, including the use of tablets and other electronic devices

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Able to read, write, and understand company written procedures
  • Basic computer skills such as Microsoft office
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in industrial maintenance including knowledge in troubleshoot­ing equipment and systems, plumbing, steam, hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanics, pumps, some welding and basic electrical
  • Must be able to read and understand equipment manuals, blueprints and hydraulic/pneumatic schematics
  • Certifications (or the ability to certify) in one or more of the following are required:
    • HVAC (Universal)
    • Welding
    • Commercial or Industrial Electrical
    • Instrumentation, or I&E

Special Tasks and Focus Areas:

  • Achieve daily and job specific goals
    • Complete jobs on time as assigned by Maintenance Planner, Supervisor, Facilities Engineer, or the Chief Facilities Engineer
  • Provide maintenance support to other departments
    • Respond to production requirements
    • Adjust priorities to ensure critical operations experience minimal downtime
    • Recognize and correct, repair, or report facility or equipment problems independently
    • Communicate with area management as to status of maintenance workorder(s)
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventive maintenance to production and facilities equipment
    • Conduct preventive maintenance
    • Exercise knowledge of mechanical systems, steam systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, basic electrical, compressors, vacuum systems and welding
    • Cleanup work area removing all tools, debris, dirt, overspray, etc.
  • Install new, or relocate existing, equipment with all required utilities, including water, compressed air, electrical (three phase), steam, hydraulic, and vacuum.
    • Layout area for equipment
    • Identify location of all utilities
    • Install all required utilities
    • Safely rig and move equipment
    • Cleanup work area removing all tools, debris, dirt, overspray, etc.
  • Practice safe and efficient work habits
    • Follow all REDAR rules and policies
    • Always use required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
    • Make sure others in the area are wearing PPE or are at a safe distance from the work
    • Protect adjacent equipment, tooling, tables, etc. from debris or overspray
    • Cleanup work area removing all tools, debris, dirt, overspray, etc.
  • Direct maintenance mechanics and maintenance operators as required
    • Assign specific tasks when mechanics or operators are helping on a job
    • Make sure they are wearing PPE
    • Direct cleanup of work area removing all tools, debris, dirt, overspray, etc.
