Right now we are looking for a Medical Dicta Typist to work in our Transcription Services Department within Health Information Services.

                                                                                                                 

Reporting Relationship:  Health Information Services Manager
Hiring Salary Range:  $25.131 - $27.189
Location:  Humber River Hospital - Wilson Site
Hours of work:  8 AM-4 PM daily, Monday to Friday
Union:  Teamsters Clerical

 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Transcribes medical dictation, when required and edits speech recognized draft documents
  • Clarifies dictation that is unclear or incomplete, seeking assistance, when necessary
  • Uses reference materials appropriately and efficiently, to facilitate the accuracy, clarity and completeness of reports including, extensive use of internet searches
  • Recognizes, interprets and evaluates inconsistencies, discrepancies and inaccuracies in medical dictation and appropriately edits, revises and clarifies them without altering the meaning of the dictation or changing the dictator’s style
  • Meets quality and productivity standards (85-100 min/day, quality score of 98 or more)
  • Verifies patient information for report accuracy and completeness
  • Formats reports, according to established guidelines
  • Uses designated equipment effectively, skillfully and efficiently
  • Demonstrates understanding of policies and procedures and organizes and prioritizes assigned work, to meet established standards, turnaround times and commitments
  • Participates in continuing education activities
  • Other duties as assigned

                                                                                                                                                         

Qualifications:

  • High school graduate
  • Completion of a recognized medical transcription course with experience of at least two years transcribing multi-specialty dictation in an acute care setting
  • Further certification, such as RHDS/CHDS certification (Registered or Certified Healthcare Documentation Specialist) is preferred, but not essential
  • Good keyboarding skills, proficiency with various types of word processing equipment
  • Extensive experience editing speech recognized draft documents requiring well- developed proofreading and editing skills including, excellent listening skills
  • Experienced with multi-speciality medical report transcription in acute care settings
  • Wide medical terminology knowledge and familiarity with diseases, anatomy, abbreviations, acronyms, medical/surgical procedures, pharmacology, lab values
  • Previous experience with Meditech, Meditech version 6.1 preferred
  • Basic understanding of patient confidentiality and privacy legislation
  • Good written and oral communications skills, including, English grammar, punctuation, style, detecting dictation inconsistencies and contextual mistakes
  • Ability to concentrate for long periods of time with attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and work under pressure
  • Meets all established department standards/deadlines with good phone reception skills
  • Organizes&prioritizes assigned work to meet standards/turnaround times/commitments

  • Have knowledge and understanding of the Internal Responsibility System (IRS) in relation to the Occupational Health and Safety Act and attend all required Health and Safety training
