Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field and one year of experience in a public health, human services, or health related program/organization; OR an Associate's degree in a related field and three years of such experience; OR five years of related experience. A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one year of experience.

This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting may not be available. If telecommuting is available, the incumbent will be required to have a telephone/mobile device, and internet access.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with interviewing people in the setting of public health or other health related interview- based research. Knowledge of issues related to the provision of services to persons living with HIV/AIDS. Ability to handle multiple projects/activities and to work independently. Excellent verbal communication skills. Spanish fluency highly desirable.

Responsibilities

The Public Health Specialist II will function as a data collector for the CDC-sponsored Medical Monitoring Project (MMP), conducting lead generation, participant recruitment, participant interviews and medical record abstractions for the NYS MMP project area. MMP is a nationally representative, population-based surveillance system that provides information about behaviors, clinical outcomes, and quality of care for people with HIV (PWH). MMP data is used in making policy decisions and in HIV funding and treatment services. MMP can answer important questions, such as: what are barriers to HIV care, prevention, and support services, what needs are being met and not met, and how is HIV treatment affecting people with HIV?
