Job description

Description

 The Life Safety Inspection Technician is responsible for performing scheduled inspections, testing, and basic maintenance of fire and life safety systems in accordance with NFPA standards, local/state regulations, and company procedures. This includes but is not limited to fire alarms, fire sprinklers, extinguishers, emergency lighting, and other life safety equipment. The technician ensures systems are operating correctly to protect property and life and provides clear documentation for compliance and reporting.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct inspections and testing of fire alarm, sprinkler, extinguisher, and other life safety systems in accordance with NFPA, AHJ, and customer requirements.
  • Document findings and complete inspection reports with accuracy and clarity.
  • Identify system deficiencies or repairs needed and communicate them to the appropriate team or customer contact.
  • Adhere to customer schedules, access protocols, and safety procedures while on-site.
  • Communicate professionally with customers to explain findings and answer questions.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable Texas licensing requirements and safety codes.
  • Participate in training and continuing education to maintain current certifications and licenses

Requirements

 Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in fire/life safety inspection or related field preferred.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain the following Texas licenses (as applicable):
    • Texas State Fire Marshal's Office (SFMO) Licenses (e.g., FAL, FEL-A, FEL-B, RME-I, RME-G, etc.)
    • NICET Level I or II in Inspection and Testing of Fire Alarm or Water-Based Systems (preferred but not required).
  • Valid Texas driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, NFPA codes, and inspection/test documentation.
  • Must be comfortable working in a variety of environments including mechanical rooms, ceilings, rooftops, and confined spaces.
  • Strong attention to detail, time management, and customer service skills.
  • Basic computer or tablet proficiency for completing digital inspection reports.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, climb ladders, kneel, or work at heights.
  • Must be able to work in indoor/outdoor conditions and travel as required.
