About the role: We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator (DBA) to serve as a subject matter expert supporting mission‐critical federal systems.
This role is responsible for the design, administration, security, performance optimization, and availability of enterprise database environments, primarily using Microsoft SQL Server. The DBA will work independently while collaborating closely with application teams, system administrators, and government stakeholders to ensure secure, reliable, and high‐performing database operations. The role also includes knowledge transfer and operational support for in‐house staff.
Responsibilities: Plan, design, implement, and maintain enterprise database systems in AWS Cloud supporting production and lower environments Administer Microsoft SQL Server environments in AWS Cloud, including security, tables, indexes, stored procedures, and maintenance jobs Monitor database performance, analyze activity, tune queries, and optimize configurations Develop and execute backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies Implement high availability and redundancy solutions (clustering, mirroring, log shipping) Perform database migrations, upgrades, and patch management May assist with designing and maintaining data models, schemas, and database architecture documentation Develop SQL reports, stored procedures, and support SSRS reporting environments Conduct database health checks and produce architectural assessment reports Identify and remediate security vulnerabilities; implement encryption, auditing, and access controls Provide DBA support throughout the SDLC (requirements, design reviews, releases, and production support) Troubleshoot production database and server performance issues Ensure compliance with federal security regulations and Section508 accessibility standards Provide documentation, training, and knowledge transfer to internal staff Coordinate with cross‐functional IT teams and stakeholders Provide after‐hours and weekend support as needed, including support during planned maintenance windows, deployments, or issue resolution activities Requirements: Certified in AWS Database or similar certification 15+ years of experience as a Database Administrator or IT Specialist Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience At least 4+ years of experience with AWS Strong expertise in Microsoft SQL Server2014 and2016 Experience with database security, backup and recovery, and performance tuning Hands‐on experience with clustered environments and high‐availability solutions Experience with database upgrades, migrations, and patching Knowledge of data warehouse, data mart, and data lake architectures Experience with SSRS and reporting server setup Familiarity with data modeling, metadata, and schema design Knowledge of federal data and security regulations Ability to work independently as a technical subject matter expert Strong documentation and communication skills What We Offer: When you join CLOUD7WORKS, you become part of a company that is pioneering the future.
