Speech Pathologist Job Summary
We are seeking a qualified and experienced speech pathologist to join our company. In this position, you will play a key role in evaluating, diagnosing, and treating a broad range of communication and swallowing disorders in patients. You will be expected to be thorough and communicative with your patients and staff.
Speech Pathologist Duties and Responsibilities
- Evaluate, diagnose, and treat communication disorders
- Communicates with patients to evaluate their levels of speech or language difficulty
- Determines the extent of communication problems by giving standardized tests or basic reading and vocalizing tasks
- Identifies treatment options
- Creates and carries out individualized treatment plans
- Works with patients to increase their ability to read and write
- Teaches alternative communication methods, such as sign language, to patients with limited or no speech capability
- Teaches patients how to make sounds and improve their voices
- Works with patients to develop and strengthen the muscles used to swallow
- Counsels families and patients on how to cope with communication disorders
- Works with people who have inappropriate pitch or tone
- Helps with speech cadence and fluency
- Keeps us with administrative tasks, such as patient records
Speech Pathologist Requirements and Qualifications
- Possesses a master's degree
- Has completed undergrad and focused on specific speech disorders, alternative communication methods, and swallowing disorders
- Completed supervised clinical work
- Must be licensed in all jurisdictions
