Radiation Therapist Job Summary
Our healthcare facility is currently seeking a Radiation Therapist to join our patient care team. In this role, you will use specialized equipment to administer therapeutic doses of radiation under the direction of an oncologist. It is essential to verify the dose and properly prepare each patient before administering this type of medication, as it can cause a decent amount of discomfort. You will also assist with imaging exams when contrast is needed. To qualify for this position, you must have the ARRT-RT credential and state licensure.
Radiation Therapist Duties and Responsibilities
- Verify the radiation dose against the prescription
- Position patient, explaining the procedure and answering any questions
- Use equipment to administer therapeutic doses
- Monitor patients for discomfort throughout the procedure
- Document results and update patient records
- Assist with fluoroscopic imaging and gastrointestinal exams when necessary
Radiation Therapist Requirements and Qualifications
- Associate or bachelor's degree in radiation therapy
- ARRT certification and registration in radiation therapy (AART RT)
- State licensure
- BLS certification
- Experience as a radiation therapist or technologist (1-3 years preferred)
- Attention to detail
