Optometry Job Summary
We are looking for a licensed optometrist to join our healthcare team. The optometrist will be responsible for examining and diagnosing eye and vision conditions in our patients. The ideal candidate will have experience performing minor eye surgeries, expertly diagnosing through vision examinations, and will treat patients with corrective lenses or treatments. The candidate must have completed a doctor of optometry degree and be licensed to practice in state.
Optometry Duties and Responsibilities
Evaluate patient’s' eyesight and screen for eye diseases and conditions
Document patient medical history; record notes to update medical conditions
Perform routine eye examinations, testing patient vision and range using equipment and other tests
Participate in research and further educational opportunities
Recommend specialists to patients who need additional medical attention
Counsel and educate patients on general eye health, eye care, and preventive measures
Diagnose patients and recommend treatments for vision problems
Educate patients on terms such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism
Write prescriptions for corrective lenses, contacts, and medications
Recommend patients for corrective surgeries or procedures
Oversee patient care and perform surgical procedures
Monitor patient post-operation to ensure success
Answer patient concerns and questions
Educate patients on other health concerns such as diabetes, hypertension, and general health
Treat eye diseases and injuries
Perform administrative duties such as taking medical notes, updating patient files, and making patient referrals
Optometry Requirements and Qualifications
Doctor of Optometry degree, licensed by National Board of Examiners in Optometry; certification by certified by the American Board of Optometry a plus
One- to two-year completed residency; experience in optometry practice
Licensed to work in state
Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Encouraging to medical team and patients; able to mentor and lead
Follow and understand standard practices and procedures
