Librarian Job Summary

We are looking for an organized librarian who is committed to public and customer service. As a librarian, you will manage advanced electronic resources, digital records, and help patrons access a wide range of information. You will maintain our library collection by managing books, media, and electronic resources. You will also carry out library administrative tasks and organize community events.

Librarian Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist patrons in finding reading materials and media within the library and library system
  • Facilitate and record library holds and interlibrary loans
  • Update and replace damaged library inventory
  • Check-in and shelve books, reading material, graphic novels, movies, and other media available for check-out
  • Organize children and teen reading events; read stories at programs for children
  • Improve patron reading skills through lessons, interactive storytelling, and hands-on activities
  • Organize community events and programs
  • Manage acquisitions of new materials and inventory
  • Help patrons research scholarly and public information
  • Educate patrons on technology like electronic search tools, 3-D printers, and computer basics

Librarian Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field
  • Master's degree in Library Science or information studies accredited by the American Library Association (ALA)
  • Meet state required licensure/certification
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel)
  • Organized and able to create multiple timelines, budgets, and schedules
  • Strong interpersonal skills and communication with all levels of staff
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently or as an active member of a team
  • Ability to physically stand, bend, squat, and move to replace books and materials; able to pull or push cart of books and materials
  • Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently

Nice to Have

  • Library scheduling and management software and systems experience preferred
