Ironworker Duties and Responsibilities

  • Read and understand blueprints and project layout
  • Measure and cut metal parts to exact specifications
  • Install or fabricate metal pieces into columns, girders, or other structural frameworks
  • Repair or replace existing steel parts of buildings and other structures
  • Operate crane ball and other machinery to move metal pieces into place
  • Clean and maintain all tools and equipment to ensure they remain in good condition
  • Follow all industry and governmental regulations on safety protocols

Ironworker Requirements and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Some experience in welding or construction preferred
  • Knowledge of how to handle metal properly
  • Proficient in industry tools and equipment, such as hand and power tools and welding devices
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
  • Able to lift at least 35 pounds and stand for extended periods
