Creative Director Job Summary

The Creative Director is the creative lead and responsible for theoperations of the agency. Acting as thecreative and managerialprincipal, the Creative Director works with designers, artists, copywriters, sales teams, and marketers to create a vision for products sold.Creative Directorsplan advertising, oversee thecreativeprocess, and give guidance to the creativepeople that work under them. The Creative Director plays an essential role in the marketing, creative, communications, and digital departments. Day-to-day, the Creative Director is responsible for leading their team, developing creative guidelines, and directing creative work. This may include print collateral, websites, email campaigns, television and radio advertising, and many related tasks. Creative Directors also must be great leaders with the ability to maximize the talents of their teams. This means being a coach, a teacher, an instructor, and a critic all at once. Creative Directors work with copywriters, graphic designers, web designers, account managers, brand managers, and other marketing professionals.

Creative Director Duties and Responsibilities

  • An intimate understanding of design, copy, and web best practices/guidelines
  • Experience with a variety of software, including Photoshop, InDesign, etc.
  • Excellent leadership, coaching, mentoring, and communication skills
  • A strong understanding of brand development and multichannel marketing concepts
  • Understanding of software development and how it relates to the marketing needs of clients
  • Familiarity with online and offline conversion optimization
  • Comfort interacting with clients, giving presentations, and speaking with the media
  • Strong persuasive and negotiation skills
  • Proficiency in long and short term planning as well as the ability to thrive under tight deadlines

Creative Director Requirements and Qualifications

  • Degrees in art, graphic design, marketing, communications, or journalism
  • Previous experience as a Creative Director a plus
  • Previous experience as a graphic design or web designer a plus
  • Experience in public speaking
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Suite, InDesign, and Photoshop
  • Experience with Illustrator a plus
