Admissions Nurse Job Summary

Our hospital is looking for a registered nurse (RN) to join our staff as an Admissions Nurse. In this position, you will be the first point of contact for patients as they come into our facilities. Your primary responsibilities include administrative tasks, such as collecting medical information and ensuring that all insurance paperwork is in order. However, since you are a qualified nurse, we may expect you to provide patient care as well. While you will be working with a team of other medical professionals, you may administer medicine or take vitals when necessary. You will also educate and examine patients for potential issues before operations. Experience working at a free clinic or hospice care facility, or with a vulnerable population, is a plus.

Admissions Nurse Duties and Responsibilities

  • Obtain medical history from patients upon admission
  • Collect insurance information and have patients fill out the proper paperwork
  • Coordinate with physicians to provide comprehensive patient care
  • Examine pre-op patients for issues or abnormalities
  • Educate patients on operations, treatment, and recovery

Admissions Nurse Requirements and Qualifications

  • Associate degree in nursing; bachelor's preferred
  • RN license
  • Familiarity with pre- and post-op procedures
  • Strong communication and patient care skills
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations
