Professionals in this field collect and analyze data to quantify carbon footprints, ensure compliance with environmental regulations, and develop strategies for emission reduction. They often work with sustainability teams, policymakers, and businesses to improve reporting accuracy and support climate action goals. This role requires knowledge of carbon accounting frameworks such as the GHG Protocol and ISO 14064.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of a carbon accounting professional?

They ensure accurate calculation and documentation of carbon footprints, prepare detailed sustainability reports, and keep up-to-date with evolving standards and regulations. The role often involves collaborating closely with sustainability teams, operations departments, and external auditors to validate data and implement reduction strategies. In addition, they may contribute to improvement initiatives by identifying areas for efficiency or emissions reduction. This work is crucial for helping companies meet regulatory requirements and move toward climate goals.
