Job description

The North Plainfield School District invites applications for two Assistant Boys Wrestling Coach positions at North Plainfield High School beginning with the 20262027 winter season.

North Plainfield is a diverse and vibrant community committed to developing the whole child through academics, athletics, and extracurricular opportunities. Our athletic programs emphasize excellence, sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, and character development. We are seeking passionate, student-centered coaches who are committed to helping build a comprehensive wrestling program that supports student-athletes both on and off the mat.

Qualifications and Responsibilities:

Required:

  • Valid New Jersey Teaching Certificate or New Jersey Substitute Certificate.
  • Current certification in CPR, AED, and First Aid (or the ability to obtain certification prior to the start of the season).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of wrestling fundamentals, techniques, match strategy, skill development, conditioning, weight management guidelines, and safe coaching practices.
  • Ability to assist in planning and conducting practices while providing effective instruction in accordance with NJSIAA and NFHS wrestling rules.
  • Ability to supervise student-athletes and maintain a safe, positive, and organized practice and competition environment.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the Head Wrestling Coach, student-athletes, parents/guardians, school administration, athletic administration, and support staff.
  • Ability to foster an academic-based athletic culture by encouraging academic excellence, accountability, positive citizenship, and sportsmanship while supporting student-athletes in achieving success both in the classroom and on the wrestling mat.
  • Knowledge of NJSIAA, NFHS, school district, and Board of Education policies governing interscholastic athletics.
  • Successful completion of all district employment requirements.
  • Successful completion of all required NJSIAA coaching education requirements and mandatory coaching certifications. 

Preferred:

  • Previous wrestling coaching and/or competitive wrestling experience preferred
