Job description
The School of Social Work (SSW) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for a position as the PSLP Curriculum Coordinator for the Public Service Leadership Program (PSLP) funded by 'The Workforce is Here: How to Support Thriving Communities and Healthy North Carolina Children, Individuals, Families, and Elders via Social Work Interventions and Research' grant program. This initiative plans to develop and offer a statewide, three-tiered public service certificate for both pre-service students at the high school, community college/undergraduate and masters levels and in-service practitioners currently employed in public sector social work settings. The purpose of these certifications is to spark interest in pursuing public sector career opportunities and, for those already engaged in the social work workforce, to add a credential to enable career advancement and acquisition and competency of advanced skills. Each certificate will encompass a core set of common elements: a degree and/or curriculum enhancement to leverage foundational instruction; a tuition-free credential, with curriculum development and instructional costs incurred and covered through the initiative; emphasis on direct service; content focused on North Carolina's critical service delivery areas; a virtual delivery model to enhance accessibility; and a co-instruction model of university faculty, agency professionals, and individuals with lived experiences.
The PSLP Curriculum Coordinator will work directly with the PSLP Workforce Development Curriculum Engineer to implement and provide academic support for pre-service and in-service PSLP practitioners and students at undergraduate and graduate levels. This role encompasses supporting the implementation and future development of innovative curricula focused on public sector social work practice and engagement with underserved populations within the social work workforce. Three of the certificates will target pre-service students at the pre-BSW, BSW and MSW levels and the other two certificates will target in-service practitioners at the post-BSW and post-MSW levels. Each certificate will include immersive, in-person learning experiences, virtual professional learning team engagement and some asynchronous online course completion.
The PSLP Curriculum Coordinator will report to the Workforce Development Curriculum Engineer and will work closely with other PSLP Program Leads and Program Managers to develop, launch and implement the program's curricula as well as support the development and implementation of all associated assessments needed to gauge student learning and progress towards stated learning outcomes. This position will serve as regional team lead for the PSLP curriculum development team, including the regional Wellness Coach and Recruitment Coordinator. This position will also support the PSLP Curriculum, Certificate and Training Committee and other PSLP workgroups and external stakeholder groups.
The position will require up to 25% travel to regional NC human services organization and partnering NC Social Work Coalition universities. Additional travel may include participation in program, state and national conference presentations, meetings, and/or events.
The candidate must reside within a commutable distance of at least one of these universities: Appalachian State University, Mars Hill University, Warren Wilson College, and Western Carolina University.
