We are a well-established and rapidly growing alcohol wholesaler based in Nevada. Our commitment to accuracy, compliance, and customer service drives our success. As we expand, we are seeking an experienced and strategic Controller to lead our Accounting Department. This position is a critical member of our leadership team, overseeing all financial operations, regulatory compliance, and accounting staff while serving as a key advisor to the CEO.
Position Summary
The Controller is responsible for managing the company's financial health, including financial reporting, budgeting, compliance, and internal controls. This role provides oversight and direction to the accounting team, ensures compliance with all state and federal regulations, and partners with leadership to drive business performance. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented yet strategic, with strong leadership skills and proven experience in managing accounting operations within a regulated industry.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Oversight & Reporting
  • Collect, consolidate, and analyze financial data for internal and external reporting.
  • Prepare accurate financial statements (monthly, quarterly, annual).
  • Provide insights to the CEO and leadership team to support decision-making.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and manage the annual audit process.

Budgeting & Forecasting
  • Lead and manage the company's budgeting and forecasting processes.
  • Play an integral role in sales forecasting and operating expense budgeting.
  • Provide second sign-off on purchase orders and ensure budget alignment for purchasing.
  • Coordinate with Sales and Trade Development to align inventory purchasing with budgets and controls.

Compliance & Controls
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax and licensing regulations.
  • Manage all regulatory activities including excise tax filings and license renewals.
  • Establish, maintain, and continuously improve financial controls.
  • Stay current with industry trends, accounting regulations, and compliance requirements.

Leadership & Team Management
  • Manage and oversee all accounting department staff.
  • Screen, hire, train, and retain accounting employees.
  • Supervise and support the Accounting Manager in AP, AR, and cost analysis functions.
  • Evaluate and maintain accounting software systems and identify opportunities for process improvement.
  • Develop KPIs to measure and monitor company performance.

Human Resources & Employee Support
  • Serve as the company's HR lead and point of contact for employee relations.
  • Maintain and regulate the Employee Handbook.
  • Manage employee medical benefits administration and serve as the primary contact for employee benefit questions.
  • Screen, hire, and onboard all new employees company-wide.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and compliance.
  • Experience in wholesale, distribution, or regulated industries strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in accounting systems; VIP software experience a plus.
  • Demonstrated leadership, strategic thinking, and communication skills.
  • Ability to balance detail orientation with big-picture financial strategy.
