JOB SUMMARY
The Wine Specialist Tour Guide is responsible for delivering exceptional hospitality experiences at Benziger Family Winery through guided tours, wine tastings, and educational storytelling rooted in the winery's history, biodynamic practices, and viticulture. This role plays a key part in driving sales performance by promoting wine, merchandise, and wine club memberships while creating personalized, memorable experiences that align with guest interests.
The Wine Specialist Tour Guide conducts a variety of elevated hospitality experiences-including Biodynamic Tram Tours, Tribute Tours, and seated tastings-and accurately processes transactions through the point-of-sale system with a high level of integrity. This position requires the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, always represent the winery professionally, and safely operate tram tour vehicles as part of the guest experience.
This position is full-time and requires a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and special events.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Deliver exceptional hospitality by welcoming guests, presenting the winery portfolio, and conducting engaging wine tastings, tours, and educational experiences.
  • Create personalized and memorable guest experiences through in-depth knowledge of wines, winemaking practices, viticulture, winery history, and brand storytelling.
  • Conduct Biodynamic Tram Tours, Tribute Tours, seated tastings, and other elevated hospitality experiences as scheduled.
  • Drive sales performance by promoting wine, merchandise, data capture and wine club memberships while confidently recommending products and experiences that align with guest interests.
  • Meet or exceed individual and team sales, wine club acquisition, and guest engagement goals.
  • Utilize point-of-sale (POS) system to accurately process wine and merchandise transactions while maintaining the highest level of integrity and accountability.
  • Assist with the setup, breakdown, and cleaning of tasting, tour, and event spaces.

OTHER FUNCTIONS
  • Represent the winery at onsite and offsite events, ensuring exceptional guest experiences and professional brand representation.
  • Assist guests with reservations, booking inquiries, and experience recommendations.
  • Support retail operations by stocking supplies, maintaining merchandise displays, and ensuring tasting room and tour areas are clean and organized.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members and leadership to deliver best-in-class hospitality and achieve business objectives.
  • Represent Benziger Family Winery in a friendly, professional, positive, and knowledgeable manner at all times.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Two or more years of experience in tasting rooms, hospitality, luxury service, or retail sales, preferred.
  • Strong sales aptitude with the ability to confidently recommend wines, experiences, merchandise, and wine club memberships.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask, prioritize, and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and adherence to safety standards and operating procedures.
  • Ability to learn and safely operate tractor tram and electric tram tour vehicles.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid California driver's license.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Frequently lift, carry, push, and move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Frequently bend, stoop, reach, twist, and kneel while performing job duties.
  • Operate equipment including hand trucks, dishwashers, and other winery-related equipment.
  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to safely operate winery tour vehicles as required.

COMPENSATION
  • Hourly Pay Range: $20.00 per hour + tips and commissions
  • Actual compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, skills, qualifications, education, and other job-related considerations.
