JOB SUMMARY:
The Sustainability Program Intern will provide administrative support to The Palms Hotel & Spa's sustainability program, with a primary focus on data collection, documentation, organization, analysis, and reporting.
The intern will assist with collecting and maintaining information related to the hotel's environmental programs, sustainability initiatives, certifications, and reporting requirements.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Sustainability Data & Documentation
  • Collect sustainability data from various hotel departments.
  • Organize information in spreadsheets and tracking documents.
  • Assist with tracking energy, water, waste, recycling, composting, purchasing, and other sustainability activities.
  • Review information for accuracy and completeness.
  • Follow up with departments when information is missing or incomplete.
  • Maintain organized electronic and physical sustainability records.

Data Analysis & Reporting
  • Review and analyze collected sustainability data.
  • Compare current and previous data when applicable.
  • Identify trends, discrepancies, or missing information.
  • Prepare spreadsheets, summaries, charts, and basic reports.
  • Assist with preparing information for management review.

Sustainability & Certification Support
  • Assist with maintaining information for the hotel's Sustainability Management Plan and Greenview tracking.
  • Organize supporting documentation for sustainability certifications, assessments, and audits.
  • Help identify documentation gaps and improve recordkeeping.
  • Assist with sustainability research and assigned projects.

Department Coordination
  • Communicate with hotel departments to collect required information.
  • Follow up on outstanding documentation or data.
  • Maintain professional and organized communication.

PRIMARY INTERNSHIP PROJECT
The intern will complete a Sustainability Data & Documentation Project, which may include:
  • Reviewing existing sustainability records.
  • Collecting and organizing environmental data.
  • Identifying missing or inconsistent information.
  • Reviewing selected sustainability metrics.
  • Improving tracking spreadsheets or forms.
  • Preparing a summary of findings and recommendations.

At the end of the internship, the intern will provide a final summary of work completed, findings, and recommendations.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from Environmental Studies, Sustainability, Environmental Science, Hospitality Management, Business Administration, Data Analysis, or a related field.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.
  • Comfortable working with spreadsheets and numerical information.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.

WORK CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The intern will perform administrative, documentation, research, and data-related duties throughout the hotel and may occasionally stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift or carry materials weighing up to 20 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
