Job description

General Maintenance Technician – Motel

Job Type: Part-Time Temp | Department: Maintenance | Reports To: General Manager

Job Summary

We are seeking a reliable and hands-on General Maintenance Technician to help keep our motel safe, clean, and fully operational. This position is responsible for performing routine maintenance, basic repairs, preventive maintenance, and responding promptly to guest room and property maintenance needs. The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, and able to complete maintenance tasks with a focus on guest satisfaction and safety. Work days will be Friday - Sunday (up to 24 hours in a week).

Salary Range is $23-25/hour.

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to guest room and common-area maintenance requests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Perform basic repairs involving plumbing, electrical, HVAC/PTAC units, lighting, doors, locks, furniture, fixtures, and appliances.
  • Complete preventive maintenance tasks such as changing filters, inspecting equipment, checking rooms, and identifying repair needs.
  • Repair or replace items such as faucets, showerheads, toilets, light bulbs, outlets, switches, caulking, drywall, paint, and hardware as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of maintenance areas, tools, equipment, storage rooms, parking areas, walkways, and exterior grounds.
  • Assist with room inspections to ensure guest rooms are in good working order before occupancy.
  • Keep accurate records of completed work orders, repairs, parts used, and materials needed.
  • Notify management of major repairs, safety hazards, supply needs, or issues requiring licensed contractors.
  • Follow all safety procedures, company policies, and applicable building or health regulations.
  • Support other motel operations as needed, including setup, cleanup, light groundskeeping, and emergency maintenance calls.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous maintenance, handyman, hotel, motel, apartment, or facilities experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, painting, drywall repair, carpentry, and general building maintenance.
  • Ability to troubleshoot common maintenance issues and determine when outside service is needed.
  • Must be dependable, organized, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Good communication skills and a professional attitude when interacting with guests and staff.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, ladders, and maintenance equipment safely.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, push, pull, and reach for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds as needed.
  • Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to safely climb ladders and work in utility, storage, and mechanical areas.
Schedule and Availability

Schedule may include weekdays, weekends, holidays, and occasional on-call or emergency maintenance coverage based on motel needs.
