Position Summary
In alignment with the organization's mission to enhance the quality of life for residents, the Weekend Nurse Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating nursing care and services on their assigned unit/shift. This role ensures the safe, effective, and timely delivery of care, including medication administration, treatments, and documentation.
The Unit Manager/Nurse Supervisor provides leadership, supervision, and guidance to nursing staff while ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and facility policies and procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Resident Care & Clinical Oversight
  • Deliver and ensure high-quality nursing care that promotes resident rights, dignity, and independence.
  • Supervise the direct care of residents and monitor nursing staff performance on assigned shift.
  • Conduct routine rounds to ensure care is provided in a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment.
  • Administer medications and treatments accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate and complete clinical documentation in accordance with facility policies.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of individualized care plans.
  • Communicate changes in resident condition to physicians, families, and appropriate team members.
  • Respond promptly and courteously to call lights and resident needs.
  • Assist with admissions, re-admissions, and room transfers.
Staff Supervision & Leadership
  • Supervise Geriatric Nursing Assistants (GNAs), Certified Medication Aides (CMAs), nurses, and assigned staff.
  • Monitor staff performance to ensure assignments are completed appropriately.
  • Participate in employee performance evaluations in collaboration with Nurse Manager/ADON.
  • Assist with staffing needs, scheduling recommendations, and workforce planning.
  • Address and report employee concerns, performance issues, and disciplinary matters.
  • Provide coaching, verbal counseling, and written warnings as appropriate.
  • Foster a respectful, professional, and collaborative work environment.
Communication & Coordination
  • Give and receive detailed shift reports.
  • Communicate effectively with residents, families, visitors, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Report unit concerns, incidents, and operational issues to nursing leadership.
  • Participate in meetings, in-services, and training as required.
Compliance & Safety
  • Ensure adherence to infection control practices and standard precautions.
  • Maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements (including DPH and state guidelines).
  • Report hazards, equipment issues, and safety concerns immediately.
  • Protect resident confidentiality and privacy at all times.
Technology & Systems
  • Utilize electronic medical records (EMR) and other required systems efficiently and accurately.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position directly supervises nursing staff including GNAs, CMAs, Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Registered Nurses (RNs), and other assigned personnel.
Work Environment
  • Healthcare setting with frequent interaction in resident care areas
  • Requires frequent walking, standing, and movement throughout the facility
  • Exposure to contagious illnesses and varying environmental conditions
Physical Requirements
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and lifting
  • Ability to lift and/or move residents or objects over 35 pounds
  • Strong verbal communication and hearing abilities
  • Visual acuity including close, distance, color, and peripheral vision
Position Type & Work Schedule
  • Full-time, exempt position
  • Facility operates 24/7, including weekends and holidays
  • Rotating shifts and emergency/in-climate weather coverage required

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program
  • Current, active RN or LPN license
  • CPR certification
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least one (1) year of nursing experience in long-term care
  • Prior experience as a CNA/GNA
  • Supervisory or leadership experience preferred
