This role is responsible for ensuring seamless execution of weekend shipments, providing direction and support to offshore resources, managing operational priorities, and serving as the primary point of escalation for weekend issues.

The Weekend Logistics Coordinator Lead will work closely with Account Executives, Logistics Coordinators, Operations Leadership, Brokerage Leadership, customers, carriers, and offshore teams to ensure shipments are properly covered, monitored, and executed from Friday through Sunday.

This role requires a strong understanding of transportation operations, exceptional problem-solving and communication skills, and the ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment. The Lead will also provide coaching, technical support, and best-practice guidance to Logistics Coordinators, AETs, and offshore resources.

Essential Job Functions
  • Serve as the primary U.S.-based operational lead for North American and Brokerage weekend operations.

  • Take ownership of weekend execution and ensure operational priorities are appropriately managed from Friday through Sunday.

  • Provide direction, prioritization, and operational support to offshore team members supporting weekend operations.

  • Coordinate Friday handoffs with Account Executives, Logistics Coordinators, and Operations Leadership to identify weekend priorities, high-risk shipments, customer requirements, and outstanding issues.

  • Book, schedule, and manage shipments within assigned accounts and teams.

  • Ensure all loads expected to ship during the weekend are properly covered and appropriately monitored.

  • Identify capacity shortfalls and take appropriate action to secure coverage.

  • Assign carriers to shipments based on service requirements, equipment needs, carrier performance, and profitability targets.

  • Negotiate carrier rates while maintaining established cost and profitability expectations.

  • Monitor active shipments and proactively address service failures, delays, capacity issues, and other operational exceptions.

  • Serve as the first point of escalation for weekend operational issues and determine when additional leadership involvement is required.

  • Maintain clear and consistent communication with Account Executives, Operations Leadership, Brokerage Leadership, customers, carriers, and internal support teams.

  • Provide thorough documentation and handoff of unresolved issues, service concerns, and operational priorities to weekday teams.

  • Monitor key operational and profitability metrics, including load counts, revenue, net revenue, variance to target, variance to maximum, and applicable productivity metrics.

  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the systems, technology, and tools used to locate and secure equipment for customer shipments.

  • Build and maintain productive working relationships with customer representatives, motor carriers, offshore resources, and PLS employees.

  • Monitor carrier performance and report service failures as appropriate.

  • Assist with training, coaching, and development of Logistics Coordinators, AETs, and offshore resources through shadowing, best-practice sharing, and technical support.

  • Identify recurring weekend operational issues and communicate opportunities for process improvement to leadership.

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required by business needs or assigned by leadership.

What We're Looking For
  • Previous experience in transportation, logistics, freight brokerage, or a related operational environment.

  • Strong understanding of freight brokerage and/or transportation operations.

  • Ability to effectively prioritize multiple shipments, customers, and operational issues in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills with the ability to independently manage weekend operations.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively coordinate with internal teams, customers, carriers, and offshore resources.

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Ability to negotiate carrier rates while balancing service requirements, capacity, and profitability.

  • Comfortable monitoring operational and financial metrics and making decisions based on performance data.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide direction, coaching, and support to other team members.

  • Strong working knowledge of transportation systems, technology, and load-management tools.

  • Ability to recognize operational risks and proactively resolve issues before they impact the customer.

  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions with limited weekday leadership availability.

Why Join PLS Logistics?
