Job description

Position Summary
The Food and Beverage Assistant supports the vision of the Wisconsin Historical Society by assisting guests with food and beverage needs during daily operation and during private/ticketed events at multiple locations across site at Old World Wisconsin. The Food and Beverage Assistant reports to the Food and Beverage Manager.
Duties:
Provide friendly sales assistance at all food service sales stations and all dining areas.
Present menus, and answer questions about menu items, providing accurate information.
Serve food and beverages located at sales stations including ice cream, bottled beverages and baked goods. Assist in prepping, assembly and serving daily menu items.
Assist cooks in assembling packaged meals while observing all sanitation and safety standards.
Assist in banquet operations, including transporting and serving banquet food, setting and clearing tables, restocking beverage containers and waiting on tables.
Assist in the regular set up and tear down of tables, chairs, and other equipment to prepare event locations for operation and public use.
Employees over the age of 18 may be asked to check identification of guests to make sure they meet age requirements for purchase of alcohol products, prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages consistent with the attraction's standard drink recipes.
Maintain the cleanliness of all dining, serving, display, and sales areas, indoors and outdoors, throughout the day; including tables, floors, chairs, counters, windows, garbage receptacles and other surfaces in all food service facilities.
Learn and work in compliance with food safety standards.
Clean, stock and maintain food, condiment, tableware and beverage displays.
Clear and clean tables after guests have finished dining.
Salary Information
Pay is $15.00 per hour with a weekend differential of 80 cents per hour. This classification is in schedule and class 03-09.
Please note this is a Limited Term Employment position so it does not include paid time off or benefits upon hire.
Job Details
Hours will be Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in September along with special events in October and December. During weekends in the fall the site closes at 4:00 p.m. Special events may end later.
A criminal background check will be conducted by WHS prior to an offer of employment to determine if the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job.
This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position and limited to 1,039 hours. This position will be part time and average 20 hours per week.
Wisconsin residency is required for Limited Term Employment positions.
Limited Term Employment (LTE) positions are not civil service classified positions, do not give any rights to permanent civil service classified positions and do not lead to permanent status.
WHS does not sponsor work visas. Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant being able to prove valid status to work in the United States.
Qualifications
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and enthusiasm for providing great guest experiences. Customer service experience preferred.
Ability to work as a member of a team with colleagues from different backgrounds, cultures, upbringings, and familial situations.
Possesses an enthusiasm for demonstrating and sharing historical activities with the public.
Ability to work with a minimum of guidance and supervision
Ability to do basic mathematical computations, handle money, and operate a point-of-sale system
Applicants under the age of 16 must present a Wisconsin work permit and will be restricted the use of power-driven machinery including food processors to comply with Wisconsin labor laws. Proper paperwork for parent approval will be provided at time of application.
