This position is part time, 18.75 hours per week, during the school year. The position comes with paid time off.
Summary
The Sun Prairie Library Media Specialist Team is committed to providing each member of our community with a safe, comfortable, and collaborative environment where they will be supported as readers, celebrated as innovators, and inspired as researchers and information seekers. We strive to find and promote resources and books that represent a diverse range of cultures, voices, identities, stories, and perspectives.
The Library Media Instructional Assistant upholds this mission while providing services integral to the overall use of the Library Media Center (LMC). This position provides assistance to students, teachers, administrators, volunteers and parents and works directly with individuals and groups of students in activities coordinated by the Library Media Specialist.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
  1. Assists the Library Media Specialist in the overall operation of the LMC with a spirit for collaboration
  2. Promotes a welcoming, inclusive environment for all students and staff
  3. Provides assistance at the circulation desk; checks in/out books and other materials
  4. Helps process, circulate, repair, and shelve books
  5. Ability to learn and understand library online catalog system and other software programs used within the library
  6. Assists students with locating learning materials and provides support in using online catalog
  7. Monitors and supervises students in the LMC, reinforcing Library and building expectations for students
  8. Remains current with technology
  9. Provides assistance to students and staff with basic technology support and troubleshooting

Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
Must meet the following NCLB standards for this position. (1) Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education, (2) obtained an associate's degree (or higher) or (3) be able to demonstrate through a formal assessment, the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing and mathematics. Must possess knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software. Must possess a valid driver's license and proof of insurance.
