Forklift Operator / Warehouse Associate

Role Overview

The Forklift Operator / Warehouse Associate is responsible for the safe and efficient movement, storage, and handling of freight within our Houston warehouse facility. This role requires a certified forklift operator with hands-on experience handling hazardous materials in a compliance-driven environment. The ideal candidate takes ownership of their workspace, operates with precision, and upholds the highest standards of safety and accuracy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate sit-down, stand-up, and/or reach forklifts to move, stage, and store freight
  • Load and unload inbound and outbound shipments safely and efficiently
  • Conduct pre-shift equipment inspections and report any mechanical issues immediately
  • Maintain safe travel speeds and adhere to all warehouse traffic protocols
  • Identify, handle, and store hazardous materials in compliance with DOT, OSHA, and IATA regulations
  • Verify hazmat documentation including shipping papers, labels, placards, and markings
  • Follow proper segregation and storage requirements for hazmat freight
  • Participate in hazmat incident response procedures when applicable
  • Receive, inspect, and verify inbound freight against shipping documentation
  • Pick, pack, and prepare outbound shipments accurately and on time
  • Maintain accurate inventory counts and support cycle count activities
  • Keep warehouse clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards
  • Operate warehouse management systems (WMS) or RF scanners to record freight movement
  • Assist with wrapping, labeling, and staging freight for outbound dispatch
  • Follow all OSHA, DOT, and company safety protocols at all times
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Report unsafe conditions, near misses, or incidents to the supervisor immediately
  • Participate in ongoing safety training and compliance programs
Qualifications

Required

  • Valid forklift certification (must be current and verifiable)
  • Minimum 2 years of forklift operation experience in a warehouse or freight environment
  • Hands-on experience handling hazardous materials with working knowledge of DOT hazmat regulations
  • Ability to read and interpret shipping documents, bills of lading, and hazmat paperwork
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks throughout the shift

Preferred

  • DOT Hazmat certification or HAZWOPER training
  • Experience in a freight forwarding, 3PL, or logistics warehouse environment
  • Familiarity with WMS platforms or RF scanning equipment
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
