FINANCIAL HEALTH ASSOCIATE
ORGANIZATION: United Way of Northeast Louisiana
LOCATION: Financial Health Center | 1001 DeSiard Street, Monroe, LA
United Way Office | 1201 Hudson Lane, Monroe, LA
Reports To: Senior Director of Community Impact
Employment Type: Full-Time, Exempt
ABOUT UNITED WAY OF NORTHEAST LOUISIANA:
United Way of Northeast Louisiana envisions a community where all individuals and families achieve their human potential through education, income stability, and healthy lives. We are focused on helping people and improving communities. We rely on experienced volunteers, loyal donors, effective partner agencies, and dedicated staff to help achieve our vision for a better Northeast Louisiana.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Financial Health Associate advances United Way of Northeast Louisiana's Financial Stability initiatives by serving as a front-line connector, educator, and systems navigator for individuals and families seeking to improve their financial well-being.
This position supports financial education, safe banking access, tax assistance, financial counseling, and resource navigation efforts across multiple programs. The Financial Health Associate plays a critical role by helping individuals address immediate needs for financial literacy and inclusion while also identifying and connecting them to future opportunities that strengthen long-term financial stability and economic mobility. In addition, the Financial Health Associate ensures that every interaction moves beyond a single service toward a pathway of sustained financial health.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Serve as an initial point of contact within Financial Health initiatives, assessing immediate and longer-term needs.
  • Connect individuals to appropriate internal and external services (Bank On, VITA, financial counseling, 211, public benefits, workforce programs, housing supports, reentry services, etc.) and help participants understand not only what they qualify for currently, but also what programs or support may benefit them in the future.
  • Assist with planning and delivering interactive financial education initiatives such as reality fairs, simulation events, workshops, and community conversations.
  • Assist in implementing, coordinating, and monitoring participation in Financial Stability initiatives across programs, including Bank On Northeast Louisiana coalition, VITA site services and coordination support, The Heirship Project, Community Connections (211/Benefits Kitchen), and Financial Counseling program support.
  • Reinforce key concepts including budgeting, credit, safe banking, savings, and financial goal setting.
  • Build and maintain partnerships between stakeholders, service providers and community organizations to fully integrate services and respond to the identified needs of families, students, and community.
  • Participate in outreach efforts to increase awareness of financial health resources across Northeast Louisiana.
  • Represent United Way at community events and partner meetings and support collaborative initiatives that increase access to safe and affordable financial products.
  • Promote financial inclusion strategies that reduce barriers for unbanked and underbanked populations.
  • Contribute to cross-team collaboration and training with 211, Volunteer United, Resource Development, and Marketing & Communications to align messaging and expand reach.
  • Track participation, referrals, services delivered, and outcomes across initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education
    • Bachelor's degree in social work, finance, community development, public administration, education, or related field, or equivalent professional experience (2-5 years) in financial stability, case management, community outreach, or human services.
  • Experience
    • Experience with financial education, intake coordination, coalition support, or resource navigation preferred.
    • Comfortable discussing financial topics including budgeting, banking, credit, taxes, and savings.
  • Skills
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
    • Passion for economic mobility and financial empowerment.
    • Ability to engage diverse populations including youth, returning citizens, ALICE households, and individuals experiencing housing instability.
    • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
    • Collaborative mindset with systems-thinking approach.
    • Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends for events or seasonal programming (e.g., tax season, resource fairs, banquets).

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This role requires frequent sitting, use of hands, talking, and hearing. Occasional standing, walking, and lifting up to 50 pounds may be necessary. Visual acuity for working with computers and printed materials is required. Some evening and weekend work may be necessary during peak periods.
EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER: United Way of Northeast Louisiana is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. All employment decisions are based on qualifications, merit, and organizational need.
