Job description

Summer Curriculum Writer English  

Goals:
- To ensure that all students have access to and engagement with high quality, equitable, and relevant instruction 

- To improve student achievement by developing a guaranteed and viable curriculum that is aligned with district priority learning standards and college and career readiness skills
- To provide curriculum writers with the opportunity to collaborate to write curriculum tools/supports that are tightly aligned with the Illinois Learning Standards and the district's adopted curriculum 

- To provide teachers of the same course a cohesive curriculum that aligned to the Proviso Instructional Framework. 

Description: 

Curriculum writers adhere to the given design criteria to develop a curriculum map, scope and sequence, and unit plans with a maximum unit length of 4 weeks. Unit plans may include assessments but are not required. 

Qualifications: 

  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) in the subject area of the curriculum writing project; e.g., English, Math, Science, Social Studies, PE/Health; Drivers Ed; Spanish; etc.
  • Knowledge and experience in effective curriculum writing/instructional planning
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Teams, Excel, and OneDrive
  • Attention to detail and template formatting
  • Flexibility and responsiveness to feedback
  • Ability to self-monitor for accuracy and completion within prescribed time frames 
  •  

Requirements: 

  • Attend professional development related to effective curriculum writing
  • Curriculum projects will be comprised of up to 2 teachers from different schools.
  • Curriculum writers must create a work plan that outlines how and when the work will be accomplished and by whom. Writers may work at locations of their choice. Writing does not have to occur at school sites. Work plans must be submitted to District Administration after professional development is complete and before writing begins.
  • Writers will follow the design criteria of all district curriculum writing documents and use the templates provided by the district.
  • Curriculum writers will collaborate with teachers of the course for feedback on essential learning.
  • Curriculum writers will communicate with and respond to feedback provided by District Administration throughout the process to ensure all requirements are met.
  • Curriculum writers will post all curriculum work in a shared Word Document through OneDrive. Once approved, District Administration will post the curriculum on SharePoint.
  • Summer curriculum writing projects can begin as soon as selected individuals are approved by the Board.  Work should be completed by July 31, 2026. 

Compensation: 

Stipends will be processed after the project has been reviewed and approved by District Administration. Per the CBA, stipends* are as follows: 

Full project 2 semester course: $4820

Revision project 2 semester course: $960; 1 semester course: $480 

*If the stipend is shared, it shall be split evenly among all writers of the project.

  1. English I= Full project, 2 semester course
  2. English II = Full project, 2 semester course
  3. English III = Full project, 2 semester course
  4. English IV = Full project, 2 semester course
  5. IH/Honors English I = Full project, 2 semester course
  6. IH/Honors English II = Full project, 2 semester course
  7. IH/Honors English III = Full project, 2 semester course
  8. IH/Honors English IV = Full project, 2 semester course
