Duke Chapel is seeking a Wedding Assistant to help support the coordination and execution of weddings in one of Duke University's most iconic and sacred spaces. In this role, you'll work closely with the Wedding Director to provide handson support before, during, and after ceremonies-ensuring each wedding runs smoothly and that couples and guests feel welcomed and supported.

You'll play an important role in creating a calm, organized, and hospitable experience in a timesensitive and highprofile environment. This position is ideal for someone who is attentive, organized, and comfortable providing service in a formal setting.


Minimum Requirements

  • High school education or equivalent, with basic grammar and math skills
  • Approximately 3 months of clerical or general office support experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Other Requirements

  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and manage timesensitive logistics
  • Comfort interacting with wedding parties, vendors, and Chapel staff in a professional manner

Position Description (Essential Duties)

Wedding Preparation & Coordination

  • Assist the Wedding Director with ceremonyrelated needs and logistics
  • Relay instructions to the wedding party and help ensure adherence to the schedule
  • Set up water, mints, and dayof details for the wedding party
  • Greet the wedding party, introduce yourself to vendors, and offer assistance

 

Ceremony Support

  • Assist with floral items, including bouquets, corsages, boutonnieres, and pedestal setup
  • Light altar candles and ensure the chancel area is prepared  
  • Monitor readiness of the wedding party and coordinate movements on schedule
  • Communicate timing and movement updates to the wedding team

 

PostCeremony Duties

  • Support photo sessions and return wedding items after the ceremony
  • Return floral pedestals and extinguish altar candles
  • Straighten chairs and assist with cleanup as needed

Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $18.00 to USD $22.84. Duke University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position; candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills; internal peer equity; as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
