Job description

Production Shift Operations Manager – Advanced Packaging & Finishing (Union Environment)

Up to $90,000 Base + Automatic Weekend Overtime • De Pere, WI Area • Rotating 12-Hour Shift

LEADERSHIP DEPTH: Proven Production Leadership or Operations Supervisory Depth (7+ Years Preferred)

LABOR RELATIONS: Prior Experience Managing an Hourly Workforce Within a Unionized Facility Highly Valued

SCHEDULE PROFILE: Structured 12-Hour Day/Night Rotation Featuring a Built-In Block of 6 Consecutive Days Off Every 3 Weeks

COMPENSATION: $70,000 – $90,000 Base Salary + Automatic Premium Overtime (Saturdays = 1.5x, Sundays = 2.0x)

LOCATION POLICY: 100% On-Site (Massive, Vertically Integrated Manufacturing Campus Undergoing Active Capital Expansions)

SPONSORSHIP POLICY: Must Be Legally Authorized to Work in the United States Without Current or Future Sponsorship

If you are an operations leader who wants to escape unstable production volumes, shrinking corporate benefits, and high-turnover shop floors, this people-first leadership seat offers your ultimate career destination. Operating as a privately held, ultra-stable industry powerhouse celebrating over 90 years of continuous market dominance, this packaging manufacturer employs more than 4,200 team members across 36 national facilities. Following a recent $100 million local facility upgrade, they have officially broken ground on yet another massive plant expansion at this location. Their financial foundation is rock-solid, and their employee retention numbers reflect it—this is a culture where people choose to plant deep roots for the long haul.

This specific opening is a deeply rewarding, people-focused department leadership role. While technical manufacturing knowledge is valuable, your ability to build a cohesive, motivated, and high-performing floor team matters just as much. The total rewards package provided here is genuinely rare in modern manufacturing: up to 7 weeks of annual vacation, a fully company-funded pension plan (fully vested after 5 years), a matching 401(k), premium medical coverage, and exclusive company-sponsored healthcare clinic access for you and your immediate family. While the rotating schedule requires true dedication, it is completely structured, entirely predictable, and rewards your weekend blocks with automated premium pay—all while guaranteeing you a full 6-day mini-vacation every single three-week cycle.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Provide high-visibility daily shift leadership to a skilled team of 25–30 hourly production employees within a unionized converting and high-speed finishing environment.
  • Administer the collective bargaining agreement fairly, enforcing plant safety policies and effectively managing employee performance, attendance, and professional development.
  • Drive robust quality assurance initiatives, including managing in-process QC audits, coordinating corrective actions, and collaborating with the internal technical department.
  • Coordinate and execute all departmental safety program requirements to promote a proactive, zero-incident culture on every single shift.
  • Oversee routine preventive maintenance program execution and partner closely with the Maintenance crew to maximize equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
  • Manage departmental operating supplies and inventory rotation to actively control floor costs and minimize material waste.
  • Identify and implement process or machinery upgrades to enhance shift efficiency, boost throughput, and hit corporate metrics.
What We Are Looking For
  • Seasoned leadership core featuring verifiable supervisory or manufacturing production leadership experience. A background of 7+ years is highly preferred, though standout floor leaders with less will be actively considered.
  • Union facility fluency with direct experience managing an hourly workforce within a unionized environment. Strong familiarity with contract administration and handling dispute resolutions is a core asset.
  • People-first instincts with natural communication skills. You must know how to build trust, resolve conflict directly on the floor, and keep a diverse operational team engaged.
  • Organizational mastery with a proven track record of balancing safety protocols, machine throughput, and material cost reduction simultaneously on a fast-moving, high-volume floor.
  • Rock-solid career stability showing a reliable, long-tenured professional work history. A track record of short-term job-hopping is a disqualifier; we are seeking an operations partner looking to build a long-term professional home.
  • Schedule commitment with full alignment and flexibility to work a rotating 12-hour day/night shift structure, including alternating weekends.
Preferred Technical Assets (Not Required)
  • Direct supervisory experience within web handling, paper manufacturing, chemical coating, film, or high-speed converting industries.
  • A formal Bachelor or Associate degree background, particularly in Engineering, Paper Science, or Industrial Management.
  • Prior hands-on navigation with enterprise-level ERP software architectures (such as QAD, SAP, or JD Edwards).
