Under the direction of the Executive Director of Marketing and Communications, the Associate Director of Web & Digital Strategy provides strategic leadership and hands-on management of Prairie View A&M University's web ecosystem. This position is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive web governance framework, establishing standards and best practices for website management, and creating a long-term roadmap for the university's digital presence. The Associate Director oversees website architecture, user experience, accessibility, security, performance optimization, and platform administration while serving as the university's subject matter expert for web technologies. As a working manager, this position actively participates in website development, troubleshooting, WordPress administration, plugin management, system integrations, and technical problem resolution. The role supervises web and information design staff and collaborates with campus stakeholders to ensure the university's websites support institutional goals, enhance user engagement, maintain compliance, and deliver a consistent, high-quality digital experience. This position promotes sustainable governance processes, accessibility compliance, and continuous improvement across the university's digital ecosystem.

The salary isdeterminedin accordance withthe University's compensation structure and will becommensuratewith the candidates' education and experience, within the assigned salary range for this position.

Responsibilities:

Web Strategy, Governance and Leadership

  • Develop and implement a university-wide web governance framework, including policies, standards, workflows, and content management procedures.
  • Create and maintain a multi-year strategic roadmap for website enhancements, redesigns, platform modernization, and emerging technologies.
  • Establish and enforce best practices for web usability, accessibility, information architecture, content structure, and site management.
  • Partner with university leadership to align web initiatives with institutional priorities, enrollment goals, reputation management, and business objectives.
  • Lead assessment efforts and develop KPIs to measure website effectiveness, engagement, usability, and conversion.

Website Administration and Technical Operations

  • Serve as the lead administrator for the university's WordPress environment.
  • Manage plugins, themes, integrations, hosting environments, updates, security patches, and system configurations.
  • Troubleshoot complex website issues related to functionality, performance, security, accessibility, and integrations.
  • Monitor website performance and implement improvements to reliability, speed, search visibility, and user experience.
  • Coordinate with Information Technology on infrastructure, security, authentication, hosting, and enterprise system integrations.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, standards, procedures, and disaster recovery recommendations.

User Experience, Design, and Accessibility

  • Provide strategic leadership for website design, navigation, information architecture, and user experience.
  • Ensure websites meet accessibility standards and support institutional compliance initiatives.
  • Recommend improvements to navigation structures, content organization, mobile responsiveness, and user journeys.
  • Collaborate with content creators, designers, and stakeholders to improve user engagement and digital experiences.

Team Leadership and Project Management

  • Supervise the Web Services team.
  • Establish team priorities, manage workloads, and provide coaching and professional development.
  • Lead major website redesigns, migrations, and platform improvement projects.
  • Manage vendor relationships, consultants, and external web development resources when needed.

Consultation and Campus Support

  • Serve as a consultant to colleges, schools, departments, and administrative units on web-related initiatives.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Web Development, Digital Media, Human-Computer Interaction, Information Systems, or a closely related field.
  • Seven years of of progressively responsible experience in web management, web services, website administration, or digital platform management.
  • Demonstrated experience administering enterprise WordPress environments.
  • Experience developing and implementing web governance policies, standards, and workflows.
  • Experience managing website security, plugin administration, platform updates, and technical troubleshooting.
  • Experience leading website redesigns, migrations, or large-scale web improvement initiatives.
  • Experience supervising professional staff and managing complex projects involving multiple stakeholders.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of user experience (UX), information architecture, responsive design principles, and accessibility standards.
  • Knowledge of enterprise WordPress administration, web governance principles, website security, and digital platform management.
  • Skill in managing website security, platform maintenance, plugin administration, and technical troubleshooting.
  • Skill in leading website redesigns, migrations, and continuous web improvement initiatives.
  • Skill in supervising staff and managing multiple projects involving stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Google Analytics, Siteimprove, SEO, web accessibility auditing tools, and content strategy.
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, APIs, and enterprise web integrations.
  • Experience managing web accessibility programs and compliance initiatives.
  • Relevant industry certifications in UX, project management, web development, accessibility, or cybersecurity.
