Job description

Job Summary:
As a Bindery - Operator I you are responsible for the set up, operation, troubleshooting and maintenance of applicable equipment. The equipment operated includes but is not limited to: Case-In machines, Perfect Binders and Saddle Stitchers.
Required Systems/Applications:
  • AS400 or Monarch

Essential Functions:
  • Set up, run, and maintain assigned machinery.
  • Lead and coach crew members.
  • Troubleshoot assigned machinery according to company procedures and practices to assure efficiency and quality to meet the required production schedule.
  • Read and understand the written information pertaining to the job.
  • Strive to meet or exceed departmental and company goals.
  • Interpret and apply department policies, procedures and job instructions accurately.
  • Communicate effectively with incoming shift personnel to ensure smooth transitions and minimal disruptions.
  • Maintain accurate counts.
  • Coordinate with supervisors/maintenance on timely repair of equipment
  • Follow all safety procedures as set forth by Walsworth.
  • Perform preventative maintenance.
  • Train new Bindery Operators and crew.
  • Monitor production and quality to make recommendations on process improvements.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to remain organized and self-directed in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work and lead in a team environment.
  • Ability to learn computer applications as necessary for the position.
  • Ability to read, interpret and follow verbal and written instructions, work procedures and other related materials.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including strong customer service skills.
  • Must communicate appropriate information accurately and clearly as needed.
  • Ability to troubleshoot.
  • Ability to work overtime beyond the standard 40-hour workweek depending on production requirements.
  • Ability to be flexible, dependable, and have a strong work ethic is essential.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
  • Required to stand or walk for prolonged periods of time.
  • Use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects or use controls, tools or equipment.
  • May require the ability to use a keyboard and other office equipment.
  • May require specific vision abilities that include close vision.
  • May be required to perform concentrated work for extended periods of time.
  • May be required to lift, carry or exert items or objects of reasonable weight.
  • May be required to perform duties beyond standard business hours.

Minimum Requirements:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 6 months of working in a Bindery role.
  • Minimum of 1 year of Bindery - Operator II experience or previous Bindery - Operator I or equivalent experience
