Job Purpose Statement

The Sr. Cost Accountant performs financial analysis, provides operational insights, and assists with the development and presentation of monthly financial packages and quarterly operations reports which are reviewed with plant and executive management. This position is also responsible for developing, building, and maintaining financial models, analysis of operational and financial data, and developing presentations of results to inform and support operational and financial decisions and effectiveness. This position reports to the Plant Controller.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all month end closing activities including, but not limited to journal entries, supporting documentation, reconciliations, analysis, etc.
  • Owns all aspects of fixed asset accounting and all capital expenditure spend
  • Insightful analysis of results and forecasts presented to plant and executive management
  • Develop / Manage product line profitability statements to support profitable growth
  • Proactively work with department management, cross-functional teams, and lead projects for development of countermeasures and continuous improvement to achieve forecasted results
  • Continuous improvement of accounting processes to eliminate waste
  • Develop / Implement / Manage a cycle counting procedure throughout the plant
  • Lead the preparation, analysis, and completion of the annual physical inventory
  • Audit costing, bills of material, and routings for accuracy and manage quoting process for sales team
  • Work with Industrial Engineer to update our routing process to improve costing
  • Support the creation of monthly forecasts
  • Support the creation of annual budget and cost roll activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Work closely with operations to ensure forecast results, identify trends, and develop countermeasures to any misses
  • Drive results and continuous improvement in the organization

  • Work with cross-functional teams to resolve existing production reporting issues (Procurement, Finance, Engineering, and Production)

Required Education and Experience:

  • BS/BA financial degree and preferred continued education (CMA, CPA, or MBA)
  • Minimum 5 years experience in manufacturing financial role
  • Strong understanding of MS Excel and other MS Office products with solid conceptual skills; strong analytical skills
  • Proven experience implementing and driving continuous improvement in an organization
