POSITION SUMMARY

Hanwha Renewables is seeking an experienced and strategic Vice President, Transmission & Interconnection to lead the Company's transmission, interconnection, and grid integration activities across its growing portfolio of utility-scale solar, battery energy storage, and emerging energy infrastructure projects.

This executive-level leader will oversee all aspects of transmission strategy, interconnection execution, system impact evaluations, and regulatory engagement across multiple ISOs, RTOs, and utility service territories. The VP will collaborate closely with Development, Project Finance, Origination, EPC, Asset Management, and Executive Leadership teams to optimize project value, reduce development risk, and accelerate project commercialization.

The ideal candidate is a proven industry leader with deep expertise in transmission planning, interconnection processes, utility regulations, and large-scale renewable energy development.

This position reports to the Chief Development Officer or another senior executive designated by the Company and is expected to travel up to 30%.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Transmission Strategy & Project Development

  • Develop and execute transmission and interconnection strategies supporting the Company's renewable energy and energy storage development pipeline.
  • Identify and evaluate transmission opportunities that enhance project economics and market access.
  • Lead transmission-related due diligence for greenfield developments, acquisitions, and joint venture opportunities.
  • Assess transmission congestion, curtailment risk, deliverability constraints, and grid reliability impacts.
  • Provide executive recommendations regarding project viability, siting, and development risk.

Interconnection Management

  • Oversee all utility, ISO, and RTO interconnection activities from application through commercial operation.
  • Direct interconnection studies, including feasibility, system impact, facility, and restudy processes.
  • Lead resolution of interconnection challenges, network upgrade requirements, and cost allocation matters.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with utilities, transmission providers, ISOs, RTOs, and regulatory agencies.
  • Manage technical negotiations related to interconnection agreements and transmission service arrangements.

Technical Leadership

  • Lead and mentor a high-performing team of transmission, interconnection, and grid integration professionals.
  • Provide technical oversight of power flow analysis, system modeling, generator interconnection studies, and transmission evaluations.
  • Review engineering deliverables, equipment specifications, and technical reports for quality and compliance.
  • Collaborate with internal engineering and external consultants to ensure successful project execution.
  • Support performance engineering activities related to utility-scale solar and battery energy storage projects.

Regulatory & Market Engagement

  • Monitor transmission-related regulatory developments involving FERC, NERC, regional transmission organizations, and state regulatory bodies.
  • Provide strategic guidance regarding evolving transmission planning reforms and interconnection policies.
  • Represent Hanwha Renewables before utilities, regulatory agencies, industry organizations, and market operators.
  • Support public policy and advocacy initiatives impacting transmission expansion and renewable integration.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Development, Finance, Origination, EPC, and Asset Management teams to optimize project outcomes.
  • Support project valuation, financial modeling, and risk assessments through transmission and interconnection expertise.
  • Assist in project handoff processes from development through construction and operations.
  • Contribute to investment committee materials and executive decision-making processes.
  • Provide technical expertise during M&A evaluations, project acquisitions, and strategic transactions.

Consultant & Vendor Management

  • Manage transmission planning consultants, engineering firms, and technical service providers.
  • Oversee scopes of work, budgets, schedules, and deliverable quality.
  • Review studies and recommendations from third-party consultants and advisors.
  • Drive continuous improvement in transmission and interconnection processes, standards, and best practices.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum 12+ years of experience in transmission planning, interconnection, utility-scale power generation, or renewable energy development.
  • Minimum 7+ years of leadership experience.
  • Extensive experience working with major ISOs and RTOs, including CAISO, PJM, ERCOT, MISO, SPP, NYISO, or ISO-NE.
  • Strong understanding of transmission planning, generation interconnection, and wholesale power markets.
  • Knowledge of FERC, NERC, and transmission regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience supporting utility-scale solar, battery energy storage, wind, or other generation projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • Experience with energy storage interconnection and grid integration.
  • Familiarity with production cost modeling, power flow studies, and transmission planning tools.
  • Master's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Energy Systems, or related discipline.

COMPENSATION: $270,000 - $300,000 salary
