Homelessness is the largest social and public health crisis in California. Illumination Health + Home is a growing non-profit organization dedicated towards disrupting the cycle of homelessness by providing targeted, interdisciplinary services in our recuperative care centers, emergency shelters, housing services and children's and family programs. IF currently has 13+ facilities with 22+ micro-communities scattered across Orange County, Los Angeles County and the Inland Empire.
Role:
The Volunteer Coordinator will lead volunteer recruitment, onboarding, training, communication, and engagement efforts in support of Illumination Health + Home's mission to disrupt the cycle of homelessness. Working closely with the Communications and Development team, this role is responsible for building and maintaining a strong volunteer pipeline, coordinating volunteer participation for programs and events, and fostering positive, mission-driven relationships through effective outreach and ongoing communication with volunteers.
The hourly pay range for this position is $23 - $25. Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00AM - 4:30PM. The schedule is subject to change as business needs dictate.
Responsibilities:
  • Recruiting: Assist with implementing strategies to attract new volunteers through partnerships, outreach efforts, community engagement, and marketing initiatives.
  • Training & Onboarding: Support and maintain volunteer onboarding processes, including orientations and training materials, to ensure volunteers are prepared for their roles and responsibilities.
  • Volunteer Support: Serve as a point of contact for volunteer inquiries and assist with coordinating volunteers for community engagement activities, service opportunities, and fundraising events.
  • Volunteer Engagement & Retention: Maintain regular communication with volunteers and support volunteer appreciation and recognition efforts to encourage continued engagement.
  • Event Coordination: Assist with volunteer scheduling, logistics, and communication for organizational events and volunteer opportunities.
  • Data Management: Track volunteer hours, participation, and engagement data. Assist with maintaining accurate volunteer records and preparing reports as needed.
  • Program Support & Evaluation: Provide support in evaluating volunteer experiences and identifying opportunities for improvement within volunteer programming and engagement efforts.
  • Additional Duties: Undertake additional responsibilities and special projects as assigned.

Required:

  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to coordinate schedules, logistics, and volunteer activities in a fast-paced environment
  • Comfortable speaking with and engaging diverse groups of individuals
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and general database/data entry systems
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively within a team environment

  • Ability to occasionally work evenings and weekends for volunteer activities and events
Preferred:
  • Previous experience in volunteer coordination, nonprofit programs, community engagement, or event support
  • Experience working with volunteers or community-based programs
  • Familiarity with volunteer management software or CRM systems
  • Experience coordinating events, outreach efforts, or community partnerships
  • Bilingual or multilingual abilities preferred
  • Knowledge of homelessness services, social services, or community health programs
  • Experience with donor, volunteer, or community engagement communications
  • Bachelor's degree or coursework in nonprofit management, communications, social work, public administration, or a related field preferred
