Job description

Job Title: Mechanical Estimator

Job Description

As a Mechanical Estimator, you will be responsible for creating cost estimates for specific disciplines related to large capital construction projects. You will provide business support to management, guide junior staff, and collaborate with the team to complete pricing and benchmarking research while maintaining project documents and files.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze blueprints and other documents to prepare detailed cost estimates.
  • Perform accurate quantity takeoffs from available design documents.
  • Obtain accurate and up-to-date pricing information from databases, contractors, and suppliers for use in estimates.
  • Input estimate takeoff information for specific disciplines and develop unit cost pricing.
  • Work with engineers to develop a clear understanding of project scope during the preparation of estimates.
  • Develop relationships with members of A/E firms and project team members.
  • Assist staff in enhancing project efficiency and seek ways to improve task accuracy and efficiency.
  • Maintain project documents such as drawings and specifications in an organized manner according to company standards.
  • Maintain and update a data library of costs.
  • Prepare cost reconciliation between two or more estimates and explain variance cost drivers.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in MEP and mechanical estimation.
  • Expertise in using Microsoft Excel for estimation and quantity takeoffs.
  • Familiarity with construction, engineering, and piping.
  • Strong understanding of quantity surveying and blueprint analysis.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.
  • At least seven years of experience as an estimator in Manufacturing and/or Mechanical/Electrical/Process Piping contracting.
  • Working knowledge of electronic takeoff, including CAD Measure.
  • Experience with a commercially available construction cost estimating system.
  • Ability to utilize Information Technology effectively, including the Internet, Intranet, Microsoft Windows OS, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office Suite, and Microsoft Project.
  • Professional designation such as RICS, CCE, CCM, AIA, PE, ASPE, AACEI, CVS, AVS, RA, or any appraisal licensure is preferred.

Work Environment

You will be part of a growing team supporting semiconductor projects in multiple states, including OR, AZ, and Santa Clara. The team consists of 100 professionals dedicated to supporting this facility. The role offers exposure to top contractors and consultants in Portland and provides opportunities for growth within a global company with 60,000 employees across various sectors. Employees enjoy 3 weeks of accrued PTO and 7 holidays.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hillsboro, OR.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $60.00/hr.
