Join Our Team

Pacific Architectural Wood Products is seeking an experienced Stain Mixing Specialist to join our production team. This hands-on role is ideal for someone with a strong understanding of stain mixing, color matching, wood finishing, and quality control. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring custom stain colors meet customer expectations while supporting efficient production operations.

Position Summary

The Stain Mixing Specialist is responsible for accurately mixing stains and coatings to achieve specific colors, finishes, and consistencies for customer projects. This position requires knowledge of color theory, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain precise mixing formulas and quality standards throughout the finishing process.


Status: Full-Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt

Reports To: Production Supervisor

Requirements:


Key Responsibilities
  • Mix stains and coatings to match customer-provided samples and specifications.
  • Develop, maintain, and document stain formulas and color recipes.
  • Spray sample finishes and maintain an organized sample library.
  • Measure and mix ingredients according to production requirements.
  • Prepare surfaces for finishing applications.
  • Operate finishing, painting, coating, and related production equipment.
  • Monitor equipment performance and product quality during production.
  • Inspect finished products to ensure color accuracy and finish quality.
  • Adjust equipment settings, material flow, and temperature controls as needed.
  • Load materials into production equipment and remove completed products.
  • Connect supply lines and support equipment setup activities.
  • Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of equipment and work areas.
  • Safely handle and dispose of waste materials in accordance with company and safety guidelines.
  • Operate hoists or material-handling equipment when required.
  • Support other team members within the pre-finish department as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of related experience in stain mixing, wood finishing, coatings, paint mixing, or a similar manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of color matching and color theory.
  • Experience operating production, finishing, or coating equipment.
  • Ability to read, follow, and maintain mixing formulas and production specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment and production issues.
  • Effective verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience in architectural wood products, cabinetry, furniture finishing, or custom millwork.
  • Strong quality control and inspection experience.
  • Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with production equipment maintenance.
  • Experience maintaining color standards and sample libraries.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Ability to bend, reach, stretch, climb, and perform repetitive motions.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment.
