Overview

The Director, Visual Merchandising, is responsible for leading the development and execution of a cohesive, brand-right visual merchandising strategy across all stores, digital, and the entire platform. This role drives a compelling "retailtainment" experience that seamlessly connects in-store and digital touchpoints, enhances the customer journey, and supports business objectives.

This leader defines, designs, and implements innovative visual merchandising strategies that bring the brand to life, optimize product presentation, and maximize sales productivity. The role partners closely with Merchandising, Planning, Marketing, and Store Operations to ensure consistent, impactful execution across the fleet.

Responsibilities

Visual Merchandising Strategy & Execution

  • Define, design, and implement a comprehensive visual merchandising strategy aligned to brand standards and business objectives
  • Lead a national "retailtainment" approach that enhances the in-store experience while connecting to digital and omni-channel initiatives
  • Develop brand-appropriate visual merchandising direction that supports product storytelling, category priorities, and commercial goals
  • Create visually compelling, customer-centric displays that drive engagement and conversion

Store Experience & Presentation Standards

  • Establish and maintain standards for in-store presentation, including feature areas, endcaps, and front-of-store opportunities
  • Identify and communicate key product and promotional messages to ensure a clear and consistent customer experience
  • Ensure visual merchandising standards are consistently executed across all locations and the entire organization.

Planograms & Floor Strategy

  • Develop seasonal pre-plans that clearly communicate visual merchandising strategies to Merchandising and Planning partners
  • Guide floor feature strategies to highlight key products, launches, and promotional priorities

Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Partner closely with Merchandising and Planning teams to optimize assortment and maximize visual presentation
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Store Operations to ensure alignment between campaigns, product launches, and in-store execution
  • Influence cross-functional stakeholders through clear, insight-driven recommendations

Continuous Improvement & Innovation

  • Evaluate visual merchandising effectiveness and identify opportunities to enhance the customer experience and drive sales for the entire platform.
  • Stay informed on industry trends and competitive practices to continuously evolve visual merchandising strategies
  • Test and implement new concepts to improve store experience and visual impact

Leadership & Team Scope

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of direct reports, fostering strong performance, accountability, and professional growth
  • Set clear priorities and direction for the visual merchandising function, ensuring alignment with broader business objectives
  • Provide hands-on leadership while empowering the team to execute with excellence and creativity
  • Build a collaborative, high-performing team environment that partners effectively across functions
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Merchandising, Marketing, Business, or a related field
  • 8-10+ years of progressive experience in visual merchandising, with demonstrated leadership at a multi-store or national level
  • Proven ability to develop and execute visual merchandising strategies that drive sales and enhance the customer experience
  • Strong understanding of retail merchandising principles, including planograms, product flow, and in-store presentation standards
  • Experience partnering cross-functionally with Merchandising, Planning, Marketing, and Store Operations teams
  • Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders and drive alignment in a matrixed organization
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate insights into actionable recommendations
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to clearly articulate strategies and concepts

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in specialty retail, health and wellness, or CPG-driven retail environments
  • Background in omni-channel or digitally integrated retail environments
  • Experience leading or supporting "retailtainment" or experiential retail concepts
  • Familiarity with visual merchandising tools, space planning software, or planogram systems (e.g., JDA, Blue Yonder, or similar)
  • Proven track record of test-and-learn approaches to improve store experience and visual impact
